READ: Hebrews 11:29-31. Invite different group members to read the passage out loud, two or three times. Each time, use a different Bible translation.

Spend 2 minutes in silent prayer. After two minutes, have someone close in prayer.

Q1 — We often forget: isolation is the enemy’s tactic. Are you intentionally leaning into community this summer? What does your relationship with community say about your relationship with God? How might deeper commitment to community be part of your obedience to God in this season?

DISCUSS — Belief in God ≠ Believing God. Being Good ≠ Obeying God.

Q2 — Where in your life are you doing what’s “good,” but not necessarily what’s obedient? How can you tell the difference between living a morally good life and living a surrendered, obedient one?

Q3 — What prayers are you praying right now? (Healing, stopping a sin pattern, reconciliation, etc.) What do you think God is calling you to in obedience connected to your prayers? What are the “small” commands that you need to obey?

Q4 — When it comes to the miraculous, are you more focused on the worldly viewpoint of outcomes or Heaven’s viewpoint of obedience? What is more appealing to you: the outcome you desire or the power of God that is experienced through obedience? What would it look like to obey without needing to know how it will all turn out?

MIRACULOUS FAITH — NO STORY IS DISQUALIFIED

Q5 — What do you need to confess within the safety and trust of your community group today? Do you believe that confession can and will lead to transformation even despite the pain and embarrassment that may come with it?

MIRACULOUS FAITH — NO STEP IS INSIGNIFICANT

Q6 —
What is the last step of obedient faith you have taken? Share it with the group.

What has God changed in your life since that step of obedience?

Q7 — Where might you be delaying obedience to God in your life? Is there anything that the group can encourage you through as you take a step to obey?

Q8 — Which aspects of your life has your faith gone first? Which places does it not come first? Who in our circle might benefit from a bold step of obedience this week?

THIS WEEK’S READING:

Each week, we will include scripture readings that are meant to help you reflect more deeply throughout the week, personally, or in your group:

  • Joshua 2
  • Genesis 17:1-9
  • James 2:25-26
  • Matthew 4
  • Psalm 27
  • Take time to sit with these passages, return to them daily, and let them shape your prayers, questions and conversations this week.

CHALLENGE:

Return to the challenge from the sermon Hebrews: Don’t Shrink Back. Set aside intentional time this week to reflect and journal through the following prompts. Then compare your responses to what you wrote previously. What’s shifted? What hasn’t? Let that comparison reveal where you might still be delaying obedience, and where God is inviting you to obey today.

  • What aspect of your life are you holding onto too tightly?
  • Is there anything you are refusing to surrender to Jesus as Lord of your life and story?
  • How committed are you to the Local Church, Christ’s Bride? Explore your thoughts? Why did you answer the way you did? Are you more committed to the Church or your preferences or potential to be platformed?
