READ: Hebrews 11:4-6; Galatians 1:10; Genesis 4:2-5; Genesis 5:21-24. Invite different group members to read the passage out loud, two or three times. Each time, use a different Bible translation.
Spend 2 minutes in silent prayer. After two minutes, have someone close in prayer.
Q1 – What was considered success in your home as a child? What did approval look like in your family growing up? How does that shape the way you seek approval now—whether from people or from God?
Q2 – Abel’s faith pleased God because he simply did what God asked—nothing more, nothing less. Where in your life is God asking for simple obedience? Are you tempted to add to or subtract from what He’s asked of you?
Q3 – In order to do exactly what God asks, we must be able to discern His voice. Are you spending dedicated time in the Scriptures? Do you create space for times of solitude and silence before God to allow him to speak to you?
Q4 – Faith is an invitation to walk into the unknown and trust God to show up. Would you describe your faith as adventurous? Why or why not? What might a more adventurous faith look like for you in this season?
Q5 – Is there anything in your life right now that requires God to show up—or are you operating mostly in your own strength?
Q6 – In other words, are you pouring out from a place of overflow with God, or constantly looking to others or things to fill you? What would it take to shift from striving to surrender?
Q7 – What about your life points to the worth of God?
Q8 – What needs to change now to move you in that direction?
